How Is MOTS-c Studied?
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded in mitochondrial DNA that signals between the mitochondria and the nucleus. Studies have examined its activation of AMPK through the folate-AICAR pathway and its effects on glucose uptake and fatty acid oxidation in skeletal muscle cell models.
